Tenute Tondini
The Sardinians received their wine legacy around 900 B.C. Today, there are about 32,000 hectares of cultivated land in Sardinia, whereby the specific conditions inland or near the coast are decisive for the respective type and quality of the grape varieties.
One of these is the white wine variety Vermentino, which Orlando Tondini from Tenute Tondini has a special love for. Vermentino di Gallura is the only grape variety with a DOCG classification in Sardinia.
Wine from family production has been available since the early 2000s at Tenute Tondini, which covers 40 hectares of land, 30 of which are vineyards. However, if you go back decades into the past, you will not find founder Orlando Tondini at Tenute Tondini in the 1980s, but as a winemaker in the village of Calangianus. His specialty was the cultivation of Vermentino grapes. He made these grapes available to a cooperative he worked with.
In 2004, a new era began when Cantina Tondini was founded, a family business born from a great passion for viticulture.
Orlando has passed this passion on to his four children - Maria Giuseppina, Caterina, Luigi and Antonio (a graduate of the University of Turin-Alba in enology).
The investment of significant resources to improve the entire production cycle has allowed the Tondini winery to raise the quality standards of its products over the years, paying particular attention to the care of its vineyards, as Tondini is equipped with the latest equipment and machinery. The family firmly believes that "great wine is made from great grapes." In the cellar, you can only achieve the result and reap the rewards if you have made great sacrifices working in the vineyard.
Tondini's vines grow in the northeast of Sardinia, in the Gallura region, characterized by its granitic soil and Mediterranean climate.
If you are planning a trip to Sardinia, consider a stop at the Tondini winery: during a wine tasting, everyone can deepen their knowledge of wine culture. Drinking pleasure and a history lesson are on the cards he
