Piedmont – the charming region in the northwest of Italy.

Nestled between the Alps and the hills of Langhe, one can find various wine regions that are a true paradise for connoisseurs. This includes Barolo and Barbaresco. However, one wine region often flies under the radar, despite producing 6.6 million bottles of wine annually: Roero.

The character of the region is defined by two components: alongside a deeply rooted wine culture, Roero is also known for its fruit cultivation of peaches and pears, which often find their place in traditional recipes or as an accompaniment to wine.

A closer look leads us to the province of Cuneo and the small town of Canale – the home of the Costa winemaking family.

The winery's history in Canale began in the 1950s as an agricultural enterprise in a unique setting: The vineyards are conveniently located directly across from the winery, allowing for short distances and a close connection between cultivation and production.

The result of these exceptional wines, with a focus on Nebbiolo and Arneis, can be traced back to the acquisition of several hectares of land over the decades. The Pecetto, Renesio Montorone, Morinaldo, and Parere vineyards bring the estate to a size of 20 hectares. The real challenge, however, lies not in the size but in the diversity of the terroir: The vineyards stretch across extraordinary altitudes between 250 and 310 meters, arranged like an amphitheater, and feature varying soils and grape varieties, each requiring individual care.

For the brother Giuseppe and Luca Costa, who manage the family business in its fourth generation, this diversity is a strength. They spare no effort or expense in managing their land: the top priority is the balance between traditional values and a sustainable approach.
