Sicily's wine history goes back a long way.

In the 8th century BC, the Greeks brought vines to Sicily when they colonized the peninsula, bequeathing a prestigious dedication to today's winemakers.

With its 100,000 hectares of vines, Sicily is now one of the largest wine regions in Italy. Some of these areas are located at over 1,000 meters above sea level.

The native grape varieties around Mount Etna, the highest active volcano in Europe, include Nerello Mascalese and Nerello Cappuccio (red grapes), Carricante and Catarratto (white grapes). The climatic influence of the volcanic terroir gives the wines a significant distinctive value.

The Sicilian winery Vivera is located north at the foot of Mount Etna in Linguaglossa and was founded in 2002 by the Vivera family. Since 2019, it has been run by Loredana Vivera.

The first wine production dates back to 2008, which had a significant meaning for the family since the first wine launched was the white wine A'Mami.

The A'Mami is the wine dedicated to Loredana's mother, Armida Vivera.

A true affair of the heart! And as the saying goes: that was only the beginning and "the rest was history".

Due to the excellent location of the winery, the soil conditions are ideal for growing grapes. As a wine region, Sicily offers a dynamic and diverse range for vinification. Thus, the flavor bouquet of Vivera wines varies from strong to harmonious aromas due to the mineral and rich decomposition of soil.

For instance, you will find nutrients like iron, copper, magnesium, and more in a wine grown on lava rock.

Another focus of the Vivera estate is olive oil production, which has been practiced for generations in their family. The olive trees of the "Nocellara del Belice" variety grow on the slopes around Corleone and the trees of the "Tonda-Iblea" variety in Chiaramonte Gulfi. The ancient Greeks introduced these varieties in the 5th century BC. Their oils were a prized commodity throughout the Mediterranean. Today they are considered one of the world's best extra virgin olive oils, thanks to their rich and complex flavor.

All grape varieties, as well as the olives, are cultivated according to strict ecological principles. Only the ripest hand-picked grapes are ultimately used for wine production.
